I left my glasses in Penticton
Kerri and I drove out to visit Adam and Nicole in Penticton. How do I know them? Well, Adam and I were at UBC in the same program. Adam, Kerri, and I worked at Hostelling International together. We played in a Hostelling International band, and Nicole and I used to get together to skip rope for exercise. This was back in the days when we used to all live in Vancouver.
Time passes quickly. It was time for a visit. You just know it when you feel it. Life bubbles up, things happen, years pass, and then it becomes time to make the time to just go there to visit . Visit the friends that remind you of good times to have good times.
The last time that I had visited the Ticker (Penticton), Adam and Nicole’s son, Finn was only two and I witnessed Adam give the calmest bath that I’ve ever seen a two-year-old take. Finn just floated around quietly in the water. Jimmy, their oldest son was wearing a long purple robe and called me Blackstaxx. Adam made up a rap about it on the spot that goes…
My name is Blackstaxx and I never look back!!! I don’t remember the rest of the lyrics. He’s a multi-talented writer, song writer, and rapper that Adam…pretty gangsta for Penticton. You should buy one of his books. If you ever get a chance to see him read, you should run to the reading. I’ve never met a better reader of his own work than Adam. He brings the words to life!
Well, it was just an overnight trip to the Ticker but losing a pair of glasses sucked. When I take my contact lenses out, I am not much better than Mr. Magoo. However, I am lucky that people are so kind to send me crucial things that I lose. You all know who you are, and I thank you.
Adam sent me my glasses in the mail and guess what was in the package?
My glasses arrived in a new case from Dr. Specs Optical. I was so happy that I took my contact lenses out right there and then, just to put the glasses on. In the envelope were two drawings.
Blackstaxx is reunited with her glasses and enjoying the artwork
I appreciate my glasses. I appreciate that I was born after the year 1286 when they were invented. I know that many of you out there are thinking ‘geez’ just get a second pair of glasses.
Well shucks already, I had a old pair and I just went to the eye doctor last week and she gave me a new prescription.
I was thinking about what a nice thing it was to get real mail, and artwork too! If I hadn’t lost my glasses, then I wouldn’t get to enjoy this artwork right? Still a happy loser.
Thanks Adam, Jimmy and Finn (and Nicole, we will skip again soon)!
